Organization
Ohio’s Hill Country Heritage Area is a non-profit, membership organization encompassing Appalachian Ohio’s 31 counties and representing the largest of six state-designated heritage areas in Ohio. Our goal is to promote heritage activities throughout the region and to provide networking opportunities for individuals, organizations, and communities interested in the preservation and appropriate development of the historical, cultural, recreational, and economic resources of the region.
Roamin’ the Hills
We host and co-host Roamin’ the Hills events to showcase special examples of historical preservation or sustainable development in the Heritage Area. Roamin’ events may include educational tours, presentations, hikes, and social events at specific cultural, historical, and recreational heritage sites.
Heritage Award Program
We identify and honor people who demonstrate extraordinary efforts at preserving and restoring the region’s unique heritage resources through the Heritage Award Program. Awards are given periodically throughout the year to honor the work of individuals who are leaders in a wide range of preservation, restoration, and educational efforts.
The Voice Our quarterly newsletter,
The Voice, is mailed to members and posted on our website. The Voice provides up-to-date information about issues of interest to the area and events in Ohio’s Hill Country Heritage Area.
Heritage Resource Council
The Heritage Resource Council is composed of members who have special expertise in heritage preservation and development. These individuals serve as resources to others who seek information on a topic, or who want to network with like-minded people. Council members are listed under Resources and can be contacted directly. In addition to being an information resource, the Council is intended to expand the sense of community and commitment among those working to enhance Ohio’s Hill Country. Information and Networking Meetings We hold open information meetings periodically in different locations in the Heritage Area to focus on topics of interest to the participants.
Partnerships
We partner with other organizations who share our goals of raising awareness of and appreciation for Ohio’s Hill Country’s special sense of place and the need to preserve it while building economic opportunity for the future.
Information Clearinghouse
One of our goals is to serve as a central source for information on the Heritage Area. This website contains information about organizations, events, and the region, and houses a series of Heritage Trail Guides, a Calendar of Events, and articles on the region’s heritage resources and sites. This is an ever-expanding library of information about the region.
